Somali Pirates

What does a cargo ship look like in the dark? Somali pirates should have given this question a second thought before they set out to attack what turned out to be a French navy ship.

The attack took place about 500 km off the Somali coast late at night. The military on board the Somme had no trouble repelling the attack and chasing down the five pirates, who attempted to escape on a small motor boat.

“Once they realised they were facing a ship that was responding and was heading towards them, they stopped shooting and attempted to flee,” commented Admiral Prazuck.
