When Times reporter Andy Revkin pointed out that a growing world population is an important source of greenhouse gas emissions, conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh replied:

“Mr. Revkin, why don’t you just go kill yourself and help the planet by dying?”

In his article, Revkin suggests that one of the cheapest ways to curb emissions in coming decades would be to provide access to birth control to those who desire it all over the world, making contraception the greenest technlolgy.
