“The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated”, once said Mark Twain. Ademir Jorge Goncalves could have said the same thing on Monday, when he attended his own funeral.
His body had been identified as the victim of a car crash on Sunday night by his relatives. Their mourning did not last long, as, to their dismay, the deceased showed up the next day, very much alive.
It turns out Goncalves had spent the night drinking with friends at a truck stop. The real victim of the car crash was wearing similar clothes and had been disfigured by the accident.
As is customary in Brazil, bodies are buried on the very next day and people are afraid to stare at corpses very long, which, according to the police, led Goncalves’ family to misidentify the body.
