“As the Chinese say: Who hasn’t come to the Great Wall is not brave, and he who comes to the Great Wall conquers bravity.” She meant braveness.

Ségolène Royal coined the French word “bravitude” while visiting the Great Wall of China during the 2007 presidential elections.

The Chinese Olympic Committee later re-used the term to compliment the bravitude of Chinese athlete Jin Jing.
